County Background:
Established on September 14, 1812, Johnson County is named after Richard M. Johnson, a Colonel of Kentucky militia, who served in Indian wars and the War of 1812, and reputed to have killed the Indian chief, Tecumseh, at the battle of the Thames; Representative in Congress, U.S. Senator from Kentucky, and Vice President, 1837-1841.
